Polydrain Civils is a UK manufacturer of drainage and water management products, proudly Made in Britain. As a family-owned business, we are known for quality, reliability, and long-term customer relationships.

Operating from our 3-acre, state-of-the-art facility in West Bromwich, we design and manufacture a wide range of drainage solutions for civil engineering and infrastructure projects across the UK.

We are looking to grow our in-house technical and design capability and are seeking a Technical Design Engineer to support product design, technical compliance, and internal engineering activity.

This role is open to experienced engineers as well as graduates or early-career candidates, with responsibilities, support, and development tailored to the individual. It’s an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on design experience while learning about the wider business.

The Role

As a Technical Design Engineer at Polydrain, you will:

  • Produce technical designs, drawings, and specifications for drainage and water management solutions using AutoCAD (or similar)
  • Carry out engineering calculations (hydraulic, structural, flow control) as required
  • Ensure designs comply with SuDS principles, and local authority, highway, and water company requirements
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including datasheets, manuals, and design guidance
  • Support new product development and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with production, quality, operations, and commercial teams to ensure designs are practical and feasible
  • Gain exposure to wider business operations, including manufacturing, operations, and sales

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Strong interest or background in civil engineering, drainage, water management, or infrastructure-related engineering
  • Ability to produce technical drawings using AutoCAD or similar software
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret technical information and apply industry standards
  • Clear communication and teamwork skills
  • Proactive, organised, and professional approach

Desirable:

  • Degree / HNC / HND in a relevant discipline
  • Experience with hydraulic or drainage calculations
  • Knowledge of BS EN 1433, BS EN 124, CIRIA guidance, BSI and BBA standards
  • Experience with drainage design software (e.g., MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage)
  • Experience producing technical documentation
  • Full UK driving licence
