Job description

We are seeking a reliable and skilled Hiab Truck Driver to join our Hughes Forrest – Cardiff team. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting building materials safely and efficiently to various locations around South Wales. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, adherence to traffic regulations, and excellent customer service skills. Experience with Hiab Grab is preferred. Its a Monday to Friday (7am to 4pm) with expectation of working every other Saturday morning (8am to 12pm) which is paid as overtime.  CPC training courses are also covered as part of training. Driving licence should have no more than 6 points for minor offences.

Duties

  • Operate a lorry in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition.
  • Load and unload cargo, ensuring that it is secured properly for transport.
  • Maintain accurate delivery logs and records of mileage, fuel usage, and other necessary documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers regarding delivery schedules and any potential delays.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures related to safety, security, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide excellent customer service when interacting with clients during deliveries.

Requirements

  • Valid commercial driving licence (CDL) with the appropriate endorsements for the vehicle type.
  • Proven experience as a delivery driver or in a similar role; flatbed driving experience is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and traffic laws.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting heavy items and securing loads.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on customer service.
  • A clean driving record with no major violations or accidents in the past three years.
