Job description
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Area Sales Manager North of England & Scotland (Preferred Location: M62 Corridor and North) to join our team. This role is responsible for building and maintaining strong customer relationships, responding to client inquiries and proactively generating sales through face-to-face visits, telephone, email, and other communication channels. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and a proven ability to balance customer service with sales objectives.
Purpose and Objectives of the Role
- To maintain and grow existing accounts, maintaining regular contact and meeting with customers predominantly in person to review accounts. 60-75% travel expected in role including several nights per week in hotels (at the company’s expense).
- To expand Wondertex’s presence in the Sales Territory.
- To develop and execute a strategic sales plan to achieve and exceed revenue targets in the assigned territory.
- To identify, qualify and manage new business opportunities in existing customers.
- To work in partnership with other members of the Sales Team, in order to successfully develop and complete new business opportunities.
- To promote and sell new products.
- To provide routine day-to-day support, both technical and operational, to customers.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through regular account reviews and growth planning.
- Meet customers frequently, prioritising face-to-face visits and site appointments.
- Take part in product demonstrations and provide technical advice.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities, including lead generation and market expansion.
- Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting to closing.
- Track market trends, competitors, and customer feedback to drive improvements and apply insights to sales strategies.
- Maintain accurate CRM records (contacts, meetings, opportunities, pipeline).
- Promote the full product portfolio, recommending solutions to customer needs.
- Prepare proposals, quotations, and pricing.
- Follow up on new opportunities and update the CRM accordingly.
- Liaise with Technical Support to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Provide monthly sales and pipeline reports (forecast vs. targets).
- Analyse account performance using business intelligence tools.
- Report any quality/product issues to Technical Support and/or R&D.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience in sales within the painting/decorating materials sector or construction materials to DIY retailers, builders’ merchants and specialised distributors.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse clients.
- Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed sales targets consistently.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently while managing a regional territory.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to tailor solutions to meet client needs.
- Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Full UK driving licence.
