We’re now looking for a Yard Operative to join our friendly team in Ringmer.

About the role

This is a hands-on role where you’ll play an important part in keeping our yard running safely, efficiently and professionally.

You’ll work as part of the branch team, helping to prepare customer orders, move and load materials and provide a friendly, helpful service to customers collecting their goods.

Every day will be different, and you’ll have the opportunity to build your product knowledge, develop new skills and become an important part of the branch team.

What you’ll be doing

• Loading and unloading building materials and timber
• Picking, checking and preparing customer orders
• Helping customers with collections from the yard
• Keeping the yard clean, organised and safe
• Operating forklift trucks, where trained and authorised
• Supporting the wider branch team when required
• Following all health and safety procedures and working safely at all times
• Providing a friendly and helpful experience for every customer

What we’re looking for

You don’t necessarily need previous builders’ merchant experience – what matters most is your attitude and willingness to learn.

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has a positive, can-do approach
• Enjoys working as part of a team
• Is reliable, organised and takes pride in their work
• Has good communication and customer service skills
• Is comfortable working outdoors and handling building materials
  
• Has a forklift licence, or is willing to undertake training
• Has previous yard, warehouse or builders’ merchant experience – desirable but not essential
• Has an interest in building materials or product knowledge – a bonus

Working hours

Monday to Friday: 7:30am – 5:00pm
Every other Saturday: 8:00am – 12:00pm
