We’re passionate about building our team from within. We’re always investing in leaders of the future, with traits that match our proactive, positive culture.
We’re committed to attracting, training and retaining the next generation of timber specialists. Our award winning training programmes combine theory with practical skills development. From NVQs and apprenticeships to summer placement and graduate schemes, we continue to invest a significant part of our turnover into training and development.
Many BSW apprentices take their knowledge and skillset further, gaining HNC qualifications in Engineering.
Summer placements at BSW have sparked new operational ideas and collaborative thought across our organisation.
We’re committed to building a highly knowledgeable, experienced management team. It’s why we employ ambitious people with the skills to deliver for our customers – many of whom come from our graduate programme.
We pride ourselves in nurturing a knowledgeable workforce at all levels, delivering the highest standards for our customers.
From higher degrees to advanced leadership and management training, our team is equipped with the right skills for the job, today and tomorrow.

Our adult apprenticeships give people the confidence and support in their abilities, helping them to achieve their ambitions – whatever stage in life.
Across the UK, a number of employees have achieved higher degrees and professional qualifications to develop their careers.
Each year, we invite skilled employees across the UK to take part in expert leadership and management training, adding an extra dimension to our friendly workforce.
Sustainability / environmental stewardship
At BSW Timber, we recognise our responsibility to drive positive change and protect the environment. It’s why we source our timber from healthy, sustainable forests, and unreservedly condemn illegal logging practices.
As part of BSW Group, our integrated capabilities ensure we have a partner, and a market, for every part of the log. We grow-to-size, harvest to order and replant to replenish, creating a lasting, positive impact on our planet.
All our products are certified. We source timber from forests that have been audited by an independent third party to confirm they are managed according to rigorous social and environmental standards.
We have implemented Chain of Custody procedures to ensure our timber meets government policy and guidance on sustainable forest management practices.
Chain of Custody ensures that certified products have been checked at every stage of processing, from forest to distribution, giving our customers the confidence that their timber is sourced from well-managed forests.
Sustainability is an integral part of our business. After all, timber is the ultimate renewable material and plays a vital role in the fight against climate change by capturing carbon.
A 5cm x 5cm x 5cm block of softwood can capture the emissions generated by each of the following:
- Boiling a kettle of water.
- Running an A rated Fridge Freezer for 3 hours.
- Driving a moped for 1km.
- Watching a 32″ LCD TV for just under an hour.
- Powering a halogen security light for 30 minutes.
Group-wide, we have the potential to replace in the region of 55,000 tonnes of carbon per year.
