Sustainability / environmental stewardship
The Net Zero Home & St.Andrews’ Timber
The Net Zero Home & St.Andrews’ Timber is an initiative that sees us supplying all of the material for the cutting edge ‘Net Zero Home’. We are partnering with Derek Welsh of both Groove Joinery & the Garage Conversion company. Derek is carrying out the building of the Net Zero Home. The material for the Net Zero Home consists of: sterling board, treated timber joists, metal, insulation, standard plasterboard and fire rated plasterboard along with a few other select materials.
The Net Zero home was erected inside of ‘The Energy Training Academy’ as another tool in teaching the new generation about the future of sustainable materials, resources and renewable energies. The Net Zero Home is a fully-fledged house built entirely from renewable practices and sustainable resources. The carbon impact on the environment generated by the building of the home is nil.
The Energy Training Academy
The Energy Training Academy is a learning centre that teaches the new generation about the future of renewable energy and sustainable practices. Gas boilers are a thing of the past with newer and more eco-friendly technology taking centre-stage. Technologies such as electric heat pumps, recyclable heating and infared heating. The Academy will educate the new generation (of all ages) how to retro-fit new technologies such as these. It will also cover areas such as solar & wind power, effective insulation, how to minimise heat loss and much more.
The Net Zero Home is the physical embodiment of sustainable practices and renewable energies. The ‘jewel in the crown’ if you will. Graduates from The Academy will receive an SQA qualification and become an asset to any plumbing or heating firm looking to take steps towards the future of gas, solar & electricity. The energy Training Academy was set up by Mark Glasgow of the Edinburgh Boiler Co. Mark is looking to help support the new generation of plumbers and heating engineers with the skills needed to thrive in the future landscape of renewable heating & energy.
St.Andrews’ Eco Vision
Over the last couple years we have been extremely conscious of our internal and logistical operations. It is not lost on us the sector that we operate in. Imported materials. Heavy machinery and vehicles. Large diesel forklifts. We believe it is extremely important that companies in our industry make every effort to reduce their carbon footprint and overall impact on the environment.
There is already strict legislation on reliably sourced material; we are trying to be ahead of the curve on this one. We just finished installing the last of our EV chargers in our depots. This now means that all 4 of our depots have electric vehicle charging capabilities. We have also introduced electric forklifts into our fleet and are planning to introduce electric vehicles in the near future to our delivery fleet. The Net Zero home is the latest in our efforts to improve our impact on the environment.
