Job Title :
External Sales Representative
Reports to :
Sales Manager
Key responsibilities :
- Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within the construction, housebuilding, and trade sectors
- Grow and manage a portfolio of key accounts, ensuring strong customer relationships and repeat business
- Promote the full range of timber and building materials, working closely with internal branch teams and suppliers
- Prepare and deliver sales proposals, pricing, and tenders in line with company margins and personal targets
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to identify growth opportunities
- Work collaboratively with operations, logistics, and procurement teams to ensure excellent customer service
- Be actively involved in customer, supplier and colleague events to strengthen and build relationships
- Achieve agreed sales, margin, and growth targets
- Provide regular sales forecasts, reports, and pipeline updates to senior management
Location :
IBT in Grangemouth, Falkirk, Central Scotland FK3 8LH
Role will cover East & West Central Scotland
Requirements
Main Duties:
- Offer a second to none level of service to a ledger of customers, handling their enquiries and all aspects of their supply chain
- Build and maintain relationships with new and existing customers and have the ability to maximise a share of their potential material spend
- Bring an existing base of customers who can trade instantly
- Visit customers to improve relationships
- Meet with suppliers regularly to maximise sales opportunities and profit
- Attend customer events to improve relationships
- Continually update your knowledge of products by participating in company and supplier training
- Achieve department sales targets
- Assist with work within other departments as requested to meet customer demands
- Participate in company stock takes ensuring an accurate count of all stock
- Any other tasks as required to ensure the efficient operation of the department as requested by the Management Team

Experience, personal attributes and skills :
- Results-driven with a proactive approach to winning new business
- Proven experience in a Business Development or Sales role within a similar environment
- Strong knowledge of timber products and building materials
- Established contacts within the construction, housebuilding, or contractor market in Central Scotland
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills and confident dealing with decision-makers at all levels
- Commercially focused with a strong understanding of pricing, margins, and profitability
- Self-motivated, organised, and able to work independently
- Professional, reliable, and customer-focused
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, target-driven environment
- Full UK driving licence
