Due to the continued success and expansion of our business, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Yard Foreman at Wells Branch

​​The Role

To lead the day-to-day operations of the builders’ merchant yard, ensuring safe, efficient handling of materials and a high level of service to both trade and retail customers. The Yard Foreman supervises yard operatives, maintains stock control, enforces safety procedures, and supports the branch in achieving operational goals.

Requirements

The Requirements

• Previous experience working in a builders’ merchant or similar yard-based environment

• Experience supervising a team or acting as a senior yard operative

• Forklift licence (Counterbalance or Sideloader preferred)

• Good understanding of manual handling and safe working practices

• Ability to lead a team with confidence, fairness, and efficiency

• Strong customer service and communication skills

• Basic computer or handheld scanner skills for stock control systems

• Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weathers

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily yard operations, including goods-in/goods-out

• Ensure the correct and safe loading/unloading of materials (using forklifts or manual handling)

• Maintain high levels of customer service for yard collections and deliveries

• Train, guide and monitor performance of yard operatives

• Maintain a safe and tidy yard environment at all times

• Ensure all stock is stored safely and securely and stock levels are accurately monitored

• Conduct daily safety checks and equipment inspections (e.g., forklifts, PPE)

• Report damaged goods, stock discrepancies, or safety issues promptly

• Liaise with the Transport Manager and Drivers to ensure timely and accurate deliveries

• Implement and maintain compliance with Health & Safety legislation

• Promote and maintain company policies, procedures and standards

The Hours 

Week1: Monday – Friday  07:30-17:00

Week 2: Monday – Friday  07:30 – 17:00  Saturday 08:00 -12:00​
