Job description
Specialist Salesperson – The Timber Group Herringswell - At the forefront of our business, selling our quality products to our valued customers!
We’re a driven bunch, and that shows in everything we do.
We’re always looking for ways to do things better than we did yesterday – because being the first choice for our customers and a great place to work for our team is what we’re all about.
At The Timber Group, people matter. You’re recognised, respected, and remembered – and in return, it’s our people who earn the trust of customers, teammates and the communities we serve.
Our site at Herringswell is a specialist importer, processor and distributor of sawn and machined timber products, serving the timber manufacturing and supply industry. With some of the most modern specialist sawmills and facilities in the UK, we’re well placed to offer customers expert advice, reliable service and high-quality timber solutions.
Our loyal customers stick with us because we build strong relationships. We listen, we deliver, and we go the extra mile to make sure they leave happy.
We’re looking for a proactive & focused Salesperson to help grow our Herringswell customer base and maximise every sales opportunity.
This is a sales role where you’ll build trusted relationships with trade customers, understand their timber needs and provide the right advice, pricing and product solutions. You’ll be confident following up quotes, developing accounts and working with the wider team to turn enquiries into long-term, profitable customer relationships.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Building and maintaining strong customer relationships with trade, commercial and retail customers
- Identifying sales opportunities and following up enquiries, quotes and leads
- Providing specialist product advice on timber, sheet materials and timber related products
- Preparing accurate quotes and processing customer orders in line with business procedures
- Liaising with colleagues across the branch, yard and sawmill to ensure customers receive the right products on time
- Supporting branch sales performance by delivering excellent service and helping customers choose the best solution
We’re happy to explore flexible working options. Feel free to chat with us about it during the interview. While we might not be able to meet every request, we’ll always listen with an open mind - and there’s no judgment in asking.
What You’ll Bring:
We know you’re more than just a CV – and it’s your individuality that helps make our team stronger.
We’ll give you all the training and tools you need to thrive, but what really makes the difference is you.
To succeed as a Specialist Salesperson, you’ll need to bring a positive attitude, a proactive approach, and a genuine interest in helping customers. Experience in sales, account management, internal sales or the timber/building materials industry would be a real advantage, but we’re just as interested in someone who is eager to learn, commercially aware and determined to provide excellent customer service.
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Confidence handling sales enquiries and discussing customer requirements
- A proactive approach to following up quotes and developing business
- Good attention to detail when preparing quotes, orders and customer information
- Ability to work well as part of a busy branch team
- Timber, sawmill or builders merchant experience would be beneficial, but is not essential
What’s In It For You:
We believe great work should be recognised and rewarded. Here’s what you can expect:
- 24 days’ holiday, plus bank holidays (32 days per year)
- Company bonus scheme, based on performance
- Contributory pension and life assurance
- Discounts on high street retailers, supermarkets, restaurants, gyms and cinemas
- Colleague discount across our group brands
- Attraction and travel discounts
- Training and development programmes to support your growth
We offer on-the-job training and opportunities to work towards recognised qualifications, including apprenticeships.
At The Timber Group (part of the Huws Gray Group), we believe that a diverse and inclusive workforce makes us stronger, smarter and better at serving our customers.
We’re proud to be an equal opportunities employer and we are committed to creating a respectful and inclusive workplace, whether you’re based in one of our branches, on the road or in one of our offices.
If you need any adjustments to support you through the application or interview process, please let us know.
