Utilities Technical Sales Specialist – South
Location: This role will be Southern based and you will be required to be based at one of Keyline’s branches based in the South of the country.
Keyline is expanding its utilities presence across the region, and we are looking for a Utilities Technical Sales Specialist to drive our growth across the sector.
We are looking for someone who truly understands the utilities market, from PE pressure systems and brownfield barrier pipe to water board adoptions and full-trench package pricing. Acting as a regional authority for customers, suppliers, and internal branch teams, you will turn complex technical enquiries into winning packages, coach local negotiators, and proactively develop dormant contractor accounts to build Keyline’s market share.
This is a pivotal role for a commercial expert who knows the regional contractor landscape, can negotiate high-value tenders with confidence, and takes a proactive approach to winning new business.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll drive year-on-year revenue growth across all utility categories, capturing spot spend and locking in repeatable project business with major contractors. That means:
-
Owning quote enquiries from first call to won order, negotiating profitable margins with customers and suppliers alike
-
Re-engaging low-spend and dormant accounts, nurturing them back into regular trade before handing them over to local account managers
-
Taking personal ownership of complex, high-value tenders while giving branches a clear how-to-win plan on standard quotes
-
Building dedicated stock packages that solve contractor lead-time headaches and secure committed project spend
-
Coaching and upskilling branch teams on live enquiries, so they build the confidence to trade utilities independently
-
Maximising every opportunity by capturing the full trench, from pipe through to jointing, duct protection, valve housing and finishings
What we’re looking for
Essential:
-
At least 2 years within a utility merchant, pipeline specialist or utility contractor environment
-
A proven track record with clean and wastewater enquiries, technical specifications and contractor schedules
-
Confidence quoting, estimating and negotiating price over the phone
-
Strong product knowledge across PE pressure pipe, barrier pipe systems, electrofusion fittings, gate valves, boundary boxes and access chambers
-
A practical grip on Water Authority adoption standards (G81 / regional spec books) and how to build a profitable full trench quote
-
A proactive, outbound mindset and a genuine willingness to coach rather than do it all yourself
Nice to have:
-
5+ years in the water utility sector, with an established network of regional Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors, sub-contractors and groundworkers
-
Experience quoting for water authority framework schemes (AMP7 / AMP8)
-
Wider multi-utility knowledge across power ducting (DNO specs), gas mains or telecoms
-
Digital takeoff skills and a nose for mining CRM data to spot unquoted opportunities and lost tenders
Why Keyline
You’ll be part of the Travis Perkins Group, one of the largest and most respected names in the building materials industry, with the backing, product range and branch network to help you win. This is a role with real autonomy and real impact, where your technical credibility and commercial drive directly shape how a region trades.
If you know utilities inside out and want to build something, we’d like to hear from you.
