Branch Yard Apprentice

This is a practical, active role with a strong focus on yard operations, while also giving you exposure to all areas of a busy branch environment. Alongside your day-to-day role, you’ll complete the Level 2 Trade Supplier Apprenticeship delivered by Leap Apprenticeships.

As part of the team, you’ll learn how a successful merchant branch operates — from stock control and customer service to trade counter support and product knowledge — while developing the skills and confidence to build a long-term career within the industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with loading and unloading customer and supplier vehicles 
  • Helping customers with collections and product enquiries 
  • Checking goods in and out accurately 
  • Keeping the yard clean, safe and organised 
  • Supporting stock control and stock checks 
  • Learning about building materials and merchanting products 
  • Supporting the trade counter and wider branch team when required 
  • Following all Health & Safety procedures and safe manual handling practices 
  • Completing your Level 2 Trade Supplier Apprenticeship with Leap Apprenticeships

Salary range:  £19,552-£31,063.44 per annum

Benefits:  Discretionary bonus scheme

Hours:  7am-5pm Mon-Fri, 8am-12pm alternate Saturdays

 

Requirements:

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn

Previous warehouse, retail or customer service experience would be helpful but is not essential.

Role overview

The Warehouse Manager will lead and co-ordinate warehouse operations to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and safety. Working closely with the DC Warehouse and Stock Manager, you’ll oversee daily activities, manage team performance, and maintain high standards across all processes. This role requires strong leadership, organisational skills, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.  

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise day-to-day warehouse operations, including goods-in, goods-out, and stock control. 
  • Maintain impeccable warehouse standards, ensuring stock is organised and handled correctly. 
  • Monitor team performance and productivity, providing guidance and support where needed. 
  • Assist in implementing workflow improvements to maximise efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Lead by example in compliance, setting the highest safety and environmental standards across the warehouse. 
  • Ensure adherence to company safety systems and procedures, maintaining a safe and compliant workplace at all times. 
  • Support staff knowledge and awareness through training, engagement, and clear communication. 
  • Motivate and lead the warehouse team to achieve operational targets.
  • Act as a key point of contact between the warehouse team and management.
  • Communicate operational priorities clearly and ensure team members are informed of updates on stock, safety, and performance.
  • Ensure stock management processes are followed accurately.
  • Investigate discrepancies promptly and implement corrective actions.

Forklift Truck Driver/Yard Assistant

At Lords Builders Merchants in Park Royal NW10, we’re looking for an experienced Forklift Truck Driver to join our busy yard team.

This is an important role at the centre of the operation — keeping stock moving safely and efficiently, supporting customers and drivers, and helping to maintain high standards across the yard. If you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where teamwork matters and no two days are the same, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing

  • Operating a forklift safely and efficiently around the yard and warehouse
  • Loading and unloading customer and supplier vehicles
  • Picking and preparing customer orders accurately

  • Maintaining excellent housekeeping and yard organisation standards
  • Carrying out routine vehicle and equipment checks

We’re looking for a customer-focused, safety-conscious HGV Driver to join the team at our  Hayes branch. This is a hands-on role at the heart of our operation, delivering building materials safely, efficiently and with great service — every time.

What you’ll be doing

  • Delivering building materials to customer sites across the region
  • Loading and unloading vehicles and ensuring accurate stock movement
  • Operating a crane (HIAB) safely and in line with regulations 
  • Completing daily vehicle checks and defect reports
  • Keeping your vehicle clean, safe and well presented
  • Providing excellent customer service on every delivery
  • Completing delivery paperwork and handling returns correctly
  • Supporting the wider branch and transport team when required

What we’re looking for

  • Valid Class 2 (Cat C) licence and Driver CPC
  • HIAB licence (brick grab) preferred, or willingness to train
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar multi-drop role
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Confident navigating local delivery routes safely and efficiently
  • Organised, reliable and calm under pressure
  • High standards of safety, timekeeping and presentation
  • Eligible to work in the UK

Hours: 6.45am–4.45pm Monday to Friday, 7am–12pm alternate Saturdays
