The Opportunity

As Financial Planning and Analysis Manager, reporting into the Head of Finance, you will lead all aspects of our forecasting, budgeting, and commercial performance analysis across BSS UK and Ireland.

You will hold a standalone, highly collaborative position designed to support our business units with reporting improvements and margin-boosting insights. In this role, you will act as a key liaison for non-finance teams and regional leadership, ensuring the business has the clear, automated and forward looking data needed to optimise financial decisions.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Reporting & Automation: Owning and generating simple, automated reports designed to be easily understood and distributed across the business.

  • Forward-Looking Insight: Controlling business-wide data distribution with a keen eye on future Business Intelligence (BI) capabilities.

  • Budget Leadership: Leading the entire budget process to ensure a smooth, simple and effective cycle for all budget owners.

  • Variance Analysis: Comparing actual financial results against targets to identify, investigate and explain performance gaps.

  • Dashboard Design: Translating complex data into clear, interactive dashboards and KPI reports for executive leadership and the Board.

  • Investment Evaluation: Evaluating the financial viability of major capital investments and new strategic business projects.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partnering across multiple departments to help non-finance teams optimise their commercial and financial decisions.

  • Profitability & Cashflow: Analysing profit margins and cost structures to eliminate inefficiencies, boost profitability and project long term cashflow requirements.

  • Regional Advisory: Attending regional director meetings to advise directly on financial performance and strategic focus areas.

About You

You’ll be an analytical finance professional who combines strong commercial acumen with advanced data capabilities and excellent cross-functional communication skills.

Essential

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience (QBE).

  • Proven experience operating within a multi-site branch operations business.

  • Strong ability to build relationships and work collaboratively across differing business areas.

  • Practical knowledge of Kerridge finance systems.

The Opportunity

As Balance Sheet Accountant, reporting into the Finance Manager, you will hold a critical role in ensuring the complete accuracy of BSS financial statements.

You will have reporting responsibilities that span across multiple business entities, including BSS, TF Solutions and BSS Ireland. Working within a dynamic central function, you will act as the absolute go to expert for balance sheet queries, ensuring our month end timelines are seamlessly met while actively collaborating on innovative projects like implementing AI to improve our reconciliation workflows.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Month-End Close: Supporting the month-end close process to ensure accounts for all three businesses are produced accurately and on time.

  • Variance Analysis: Analysing balance sheet variances, providing commentary on movements and investigating root causes to resolve reconciliation issues.

  • Systems Optimisation: Working with the Kerridge systems team to drive ERP improvements that make account reconciliation smoother and more precise.

  • Controls & Governance: Maintaining robust internal controls and ensuring complete, audit-ready documentation for all balance sheet accounts.

  • Audit Management: Assisting with year-end audit preparation by providing clean schedules and support to external auditors.

  • Process Improvement: Collaborating with the wider finance team and the systems accountant to identify reporting improvements and implement AI within reconciliation processes.

  • Stakeholder Reporting: Ensuring timely reporting to key stakeholders, including preparing board packs and attending Regional Director meetings.

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Acting as the primary point of contact for balance sheet queries and partnering with the Finance Manager to elevate systems across the group.

About You

You’ll be a proactive, analytical accountant who combines strong technical financial accounting experience with excellent problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.

Essential

  • Part-qualified or newly qualified CIMA, ACA, or ACCA accountant.

  • Strong background in financial accounting and month-end processes.

  • Advanced Excel skills coupled with a high attention to detail.

  • Clear understanding of accounting standards, accounting processes, and audit requirements.

  • Very strong stakeholder engagement skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

We’d Particularly Like to See

  • Experience working in a central role across a multi-company group with differing systems and processes.

This is your opportunity to be enrolled on our industry leading apprenticeship development scheme enabling you to pour the foundations for a successful career.

You’ll have a dedicated apprenticeship coach who’ll support you every step of the way and you’ll receive 1:1 coaching, mentoring and technical and skills training to enable you to progress your career with us. At the end of your training, you’ll complete an end point assessment and on successful completion you’ll achieve a L2 Apprenticeship in year 1 and a L3 Apprenticeship in year 2.

What’s it like to be a Category Manager?

  • The breadth of the role encompasses key supplier trading relationships, ranging and pricing decisions, and so requires someone with strong applied analytical skills using data to drive decisions, with the ability to shape and execute the commercial strategy. 

  • You will have direct responsibility for forging strong and credible relationships with suppliers, so having a collaborative and engaging style is a must.

  • Experience of working within a fast-paced and matrix’d group environment is preferred, as the role requires exceptional communication and influencing skills engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders both internally across the group and externally too.
