We’re looking for an Operations Manager to take ownership of our operational performance at our busy Moulton Park branch, leading our warehouse, yard and transport functions to support continued growth and success.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading and managing all operational activities across the branch, including warehouse, yard, transport and stock functions
  • Ensuring the safe, efficient movement of building materials from supplier to customer
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, service levels and operational performance
  • Monitoring operational KPIs and implementing improvements to achieve business objectives
  • Overseeing stock control processes, stock accuracy, audits and inventory investigations
  • Working closely with purchasing and sales teams to maintain optimum stock levels
  • Managing transport planning and delivery operations to ensure orders are fulfilled on time and in full
  • Ensuring compliance with transport legislation, vehicle maintenance requirements and driver regulations
  • Promoting and maintaining a strong health and safety culture across the branch
  • Conducting site inspections, risk assessments and safety audits, investigating incidents where required
  • Leading, motivating and developing operational teams across warehouse, yard and transport functions
  • Setting clear performance expectations and supporting employee development
  • Working collaboratively with sales and branch teams to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Managing operational budgets, controlling costs and identifying opportunities to improve profitability
  • Supporting strategic business planning and contributing to the branch’s ongoing growth and success

What we’re looking for

  • Previous experience in an Operations Manager, Depot Manager, Distribution Manager or similar leadership role
  • Experience managing warehouse, transport and stock operations within a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams
  • Excellent organisational, problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Good commercial awareness and financial understanding
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and operational compliance requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and operational management systems

It would be advantageous if you have:

  • Experience within the builders’ merchant, construction materials or building products sector
  • IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification
  • CPC Transport qualification
  • Experience using warehouse management and transport management systems

Transport Planner

We’re looking for a Transport Planner to join the team at our busy Northampton operation. This is a key role in a fast-paced builders’ merchant environment, where no two days are the same and delivering excellent service to customers is always the priority.

You’ll be responsible for planning and coordinating daily deliveries, ensuring vehicles, drivers and resources are utilised effectively while maintaining high standards of customer service, compliance and operational efficiency. You’ll work closely with drivers, warehouse colleagues, sales teams and customers to keep deliveries running smoothly and resolve issues quickly when plans change.

This is a role for someone who enjoys problem-solving, thrives under pressure and takes pride in keeping things running efficiently.

What you’ll be doing
 • Planning and scheduling daily delivery routes for a fleet of HGV and commercial vehicles
 • Optimising vehicle utilisation to maximise efficiency and minimise transport costs
 • Liaising with drivers, warehouse teams, sales colleagues and customers to coordinate deliveries and resolve issues
 • Monitoring vehicle movements and adjusting schedules to meet changing operational requirements
 • Communicating delivery updates and delays to customers and internal teams
 • Ensuring all transport activities comply with relevant legislation and company procedures
 • Maintaining accurate transport records, route plans and driver documentation
 • Supporting fleet maintenance scheduling, inspections and defect reporting
 • Investigating delivery issues and identifying opportunities to improve service and efficiency
 • Supporting driver briefings and promoting high standards of Health & Safety

What we’re looking for
 • Previous experience in transport planning, logistics or fleet coordination
 • Good geographical knowledge of Northamptonshire and the surrounding road network
 • Understanding of transport legislation, driver hours and compliance requirements
 • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
 • Excellent communication and customer service skills
 • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and transport management systems
 • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy environment
 • A proactive, organised approach and strong attention to detail
 • A team player with a flexible, can-do attitude

Desirable

• Experience within a builders’ merchant, construction materials or distribution environment
 • CPC Transport qualification or equivalent
 • Knowledge of routing and vehicle tracking software

Hours

7am–5pm Monday–Friday

Occasional flexibility may be required to support peak trading periods and operational demands.
