Job description

Responsible to: Branch Manager and Transport Manager

Work Pattern: Monday to Friday 7.00am – 5.00pm & alternate Saturdays 7.30am -12.30pm

Job Purpose: To drive a LGV Hiab Offload vehicle, delivering building materials to our customers

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

· Supervise the loading of the vehicle so that products are safely loaded and secured to minimise chances of damage.

· Ensure that the load is correct against the customers’ order.

· Drive the vehicle safely and in accordance with the law.

· Drive within the tachograph law and driver hours limits.

· Carry out multi-drop deliveries in a timely and safe manner.

· Provide excellent customer service.

· Ensure that on arrival the delivery is safe to make and respect customer’s property; if in doubt, consult with customer and/or Transport Manager/Branch Manager

· Operate the crane (if applicable) safely and in accordance with the correct procedures to offload the goods.

· Manually offload goods (handball) that cannot be mechanically offloaded, or if using a vehicle without crane.

· Check goods off with customers and obtain digital proof of delivery – signature and printed name, photographs etc.

· If any errors occur mark digital paperwork accordingly and consult with Branch Manager or Transport Office as appropriate.

· Handle customer issues on delivery effectively but avoid getting overinvolved in discussion. Contact the Branch Manager/Transport Manager for assistance if required.

· Where necessary, accept payments from customers, using a card machine or taking cash, according to instructions on delivery notes; giving change when needed and following end of day cashbox procedures as instructed by the Branch Manager.

· Look after the vehicle and ensure that it is not subjected to unnecessary damage.

· Maintain the cleanliness of the driving cab.

· Comply with fuel directives.

· Ensure accidents are kept to a minimum.

· Report any accidents as soon as possible and in compliance with the company’s accident reporting procedure.

· Complete vehicle daily inspection sheet and give to Branch Manager or Transport Manager.

· Attend training when requested.

· General Warehouse and Yard duties as required, to support day to day operations.

· Working flexibly across the business where required during quieter delivery periods.

· Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

· Any other duties commensurate with this role.

Person Specification:

· LGV Class 2 licence (preferably clear of points)

· HIAB Certified

· Current CPC

· Digital Tachograph Card

· Experience of multi-drop deliveries

· Knowledge of and experience of delivering building materials

· Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt these to suit varying customers

· Strong listening skills

· Experience of working as part of a team

· Proactive and enthusiastic

· Possesses strong resilience with the ability to stay calm and professional at all times

· Strong at relationships building, with both customers and colleagues

Requirements

Experience:

  • Delivery driver: 2 years (required)
  • Driving: 3 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Driving Licence (required)
