Warehouse and Yard Operative

Work Pattern: Full time: Monday to Friday 7.00am – 5.00pm, alternate Saturday mornings (March – November only) 7.30am – 12.30pm

Job Purpose – As an active yard sales person, you will build a professional relationship with both trade customers and members of the public ensuring that customers experience an efficient and effective service and are completely satisfied with the advice and support given. You will also be required to make deliveries to customers using a company truck during periods of busyness or absence.

Health & Safety and the well-being of employees and customers are key components of this role.

You will utilise your excellent communication skills in sustaining a safe and professional environment.

You will be based in the main yard sales and warehouse area.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

· Greet customers and establish their purchase needs

· Provide advice on alternative and/or more suitable products

· Produce a sales tally ticket whilst loading the customer

· If a customer has pre-loaded goods check the vehicle to ensure the goods reflect the information provided

· Undertake training where required to ensure that product knowledge is up to date with regards to the products stocked

· Restocking shelves / racking

· Unloading, unpacking, checking and storing goods received in, either manually or using the forklift truck (when fully trained and certified)

· Pick and prepare for loading goods for despatch out to customers, load goods onto our own and customer’s vehicles accurately and in a timely manner, either manually or using the forklift truck / loading shovels (when fully trained and certified)

· Work proactively to ensure the yard and loading bay areas are maintained to a high standard and free of health and safety risks

· Act as a relief truck driver, delivering customer orders in the local area, loading and unloading by hand

· Report any accidents as soon as possible and in in compliance with the company’s accident reporting procedure

· Adhere to all company policies and procedures

· General warehouse and yard duties as required

· Any other duties commensurate with this role

Person Specification

· Physically able to cope with reasonable manual handling, working in all kinds of weather & being on feet / walking for the majority of the day

· Full, clean driving licence is essential

· Counterbalance Fork Lift Truck certified (preferable)

· Knowledgeable of building materials, ideally having worked previously in a builder’s merchant

· Excellent communicator who possesses effective organisational skills

· Aware of and committed to working to high levels of Health and Safety regulations

· Reliable and able to work within a team environment as well as under own initiative

· Adaptable and able to cope with fluent, changing work requirements
